How auctions work
Simple, transparent rules, the same for every bidder.
Automatic bidding
Enter your maximum and the system bids for you only as much as needed to stay in the lead. Your maximum stays secret.
No sniping
A bid in the last 5 minutes resets the remaining time to 5 minutes, so everyone has time to respond.
Reserve price
The seller can set a secret minimum. Auctions without a reserve sell to the highest bidder.
Buy now
Some auctions have an instant purchase price, available until the first bid or, if there is a reserve, until bids reach it.
Example: automatic bidding
An auction starting at €100.
-
A
Ana enters a maximum of €500. She is the only bidder, so she bids the starting price.
Current price: 100 € · leading: Ana
-
B
Bogdan bids €200. The system automatically bids for Ana one increment above him.
Current price: 210 € · leading: Ana
-
B
Bogdan bids again with a maximum of €600. That beats Ana's maximum, so he takes the lead at one increment (€25) above €500.
Current price: 525 € · leading: Bogdan
Ana immediately gets an email saying she's been outbid and can bid again. No one sees anyone else's maximum.
Bid increments
How much the price can rise with each bid, based on the current price.
| Current price (€) | Increment |
|---|---|
| under 100 | 5 € |
| 100 - 499 | 10 € |
| 500 - 999 | 25 € |
| 1.000 - 4.999 | 50 € |
| 5.000 - 9.999 | 100 € |
| 10.000 - 49.999 | 250 € |
| over 50,000 | 500 € |
Got a premium domain? Put it up for auction
An auction creates competition between buyers and can achieve a better price than a fixed-price sale.
- 3, 5, 7, 10 or 14 days, starting now or at a scheduled time
- Starting price, plus optional reserve and "Buy now" prices
- Bidders are notified automatically when outbid and before the end
- Protected payment and assisted transfer, as with any sale
Questions about auctions
Do I need an account to bid?
Yes, a free account with a confirmed email address. That way every bid comes from a real person and the winner can be contacted.
What happens if I win?
You get an email and a transaction with protected payment is created automatically. You have 72 hours to pay by card, then the seller transfers the domain to you.
Can I withdraw my bid?
No. An auction bid is a firm commitment. Only enter a maximum you're willing to pay.
What does "reserve not met" mean?
The seller has set a secret minimum price. If the auction ends below it, the domain isn't sold and the leading bidder is notified.
How do I know if I've been outbid?
You get an email right away and a notification on the auction page. For auctions you watch, you also get a reminder before the end.
Do I pay commission as a buyer?
No. You only pay your winning price. The platform commission is deducted from the seller's proceeds.
